Curriculum
The MN Early Childhood Indicators of Progress serve as a foundation for our preschool curriculum. The Cambridge-Isanti Schools department of Teaching and Learning facilitates the curriculum development and writing process for all grade levels, including preschool. We use Big Day for PreK and Handwriting Without Tears as our core resources.
It is important to know that the Cambridge-Isanti Preschool is developmentally-focused as opposed to academically-focused.
We believe preschool-age children are “reactive” learners compared to older children who have the ability to learn “on-demand.” When learning activities are geared towards the preschool child’s interests and experiences, in a play-based environment, preschool children thrive.
Pyramid Model
Pyramid Model is a framework, or approach, for intentionally teaching children social-emotional skills to help them be successful at school. Our staff have been trained in evidence-based teaching practices, and each classroom is receiving support to implement the practices through monthly focused observations and coaching.
More information about Pyramid Model can be found here.
